Heathrow has published its sustainability performance summary for 2011, providing a snapshot of performance against its commitment to enhancing the airport’s social and economic benefits and reducing its negative environmental impacts.

BAA's CEO, Colin Matthews introduces the summary of Heathrow’s performance in managing key sustainability issues, with views on 2011 performance and a look forward to the future.

The document is part of a series of briefings which outline the airport’s approach to developing a sustainable Heathrow.  The series replaces the traditional annual Corporate Responsibility Report format and is designed to provide an accessible, frequent insight into key sustainability issues including:

  • Climate change
  • Noise
  • Air quality
  • Education, employment and skills
  • Economy
  • Waste
  • Water
  • Safety

As the UK's only hub airport, Heathrow has committed to delivering a sustainable airport:  enhancing the economic impact that it provides, while minimising the negative impacts of airport operations on local communities and the environment.

Heathrow's series of sustainability briefings 'Towards a Sustainable Heathrow' provide regular insights into how Heathrow works with airport companies and other partners to manage sustainability performance.
