3 Cs to sustainability

Community investment, capacity building, stakeholder engagement. Okay, so it's actually two Cs and one S.

All three are essential to building relationships and delivering sustainable profit. Why? Resource-rich countries are increasingly protective of their natural assets as energy and precious materials become scarcer. This is identified by the growing surge in resource nationalism - countries such as South Africa, Zambia, Australia, Zimbabwe and Columbia have all put forward plans to secure a greater slice of the pie.

Addressing the challenge requires extractives to build trust and strong relations, which can only be achieved through sustainable community investment, capacity building and, perhaps most critical of all, stakeholder engagement.
