The report describes how the company manages sustainability and highlights its challenges and achievements in 2010. The company's business intelligence is the 'Sustainable Competitive Advantage' model, where risk management and stakeholder engagement iterate to drive competitiveness.
Highlights from the period include the:
sustainability focus which continues to follow the corporate Vision and Mission
stakeholder engagement strategy evolving to embrace extended social expectations
construction risks managed across multiple rail projects in Hong Kong
carbon assessment protocol being developed for the life cycle of new rail projects
energy efficiency of operating railway and property portfolio being continually improved
The report includes a separate section on Climate Change which acknowledges the company's expanding global footprint and operating responsibilities. A low-carbon future is an imperative to urban environments worldwide and what the company plans today, builds tomorrow and uses for the next century transforms the landscape of Hong Kong.
MTR Corporation, which is undertaking its most ambitious network expansion in its 30 year history in Hong Kong, is to build and operate 56km of new rail lines over the next ten years. It also has operations in Shenzhen, Beijing, Hangzhou, London, Stockholm and Melbourne.
