Sompo Japan Insurance has released its Corporate Social Responsibility Communication
2010 at http://ethicalperformance.com/reports/links/sompo-japan-csrindex
The report, which uses the phrase 'Looking One Step Ahead' as a keyword throughout, focuses again on the status of efforts to tackle the 'Four Material Issues' on CSR that have been identified by the company -
1) Adaptation to and Mitigation of Climate Change
2) Risk Management for Safety and Security
3) Development and Implementation of CSR Financing
4) Community Involvement and Development.
The document covers various topics, including the company's impact on biodiversity and document management, its Weather Index Insurance in Thailand, and its microinsurance in India. It reports, among other things, on a 37.49 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions relative to FY2002, against a target of a 56 per cent reduction by 2050.
This year's edition, which uses the Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Guidelines as a reference, consists of the main report and, for the first time, a separate downloadable Data Book, which contains quantitative data on environment, society and governance. In the main report there are also third party comments on the company's performance from figures such as Anne Gadegaard, director of healthcare company Novo Nordisk, and Carolyn Schmidt, program director of ECOLOGIA (Ecologists linked for Organizing Grassroots Initiatives and Action).
The report is available on Sompo Japan's website in PDF format, or if you would prefer it in printed booklet form, is available via Sompo Japan's website or at the following email address: ECo@sompo-japan.co.jp
