EDF Energy UK plc has published its 2009 Sustainability Report, 'Leading the Energy Change' online at:
The report provides an update on EDF Energy's sustainability performance in 2009 as well as some key achievements:
Chief Executive Officer Vincent de Rivaz became National Ambassador to HRH The Prince of Wales and led an inquiry into the leadership skills required for a sustainable economy
Completion of the fourth year of a five-year, £30million investment programme to improve the efficiency of their coal-fired power stations
More than 7,500 schools have registered with EDF Energy's Sustainable Schools programme
EDF Energy was one of only seven UK companies to be awarded 'Platinum Plus' in the Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index
In 2009 EDF Energy launched Green Britain Day and Team Green Britain, a nationwide movement encouraging everyone to join forces in the fight against climate change. By the end of 2009, over 713,000 people had signed up to take part
The report has been independently assured by TwoTomorrows using the AA1000 Assurance Standard (AA1000AS) (2008), Type 2 assurance.
On 9 June EDF Energy also launched 'Our Sustainability Commitments' at:
The new commitments reflect EDF Energy's coming together with British Energy in 2009, and strengthen 'Our Climate Commitments and Our Social Commitments' launched in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
A strong feature in the new commitments is the focus on skills. EDF Energy recognises a huge shortfall in the skills required to see through its nuclear ambitions in the UK, as well as the need to develop sustainability skills for UK business as a whole.
