BT launches 2010 sustainability report

BT's 2010 sustainability report is available online at:

The report reveals how BT is creating the framework for a low carbon future and embedding sustainability into its business.
It also includes comments and thought pieces from internal and external stakeholders on some of the issues and dilemmas facing BT, as well as ways in which the company is addressing them.

Key headlines from the report include:

  a reduction in the carbon intensity of BT's global business by 54 per cent compared to 1997
  a target to reduce global energy consumption by three per cent compared to 2010
  a cut in waste sent to landfill by 15 per cent compared with 2009, and a 44 per cent recycling rate of total global waste generated by the company
  investments in money, time and in-kind support worth £26.4 million in community and sustainability programmes.

The report also shows that BT has been placed in the top ten in four out of five major diversity benchmarks for the past three years, that it has retained Platinum Plus status in Business in the Community's CR Index, and that it remains in the top five per cent of its sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

Additionally it reveals that BT has been granted planning permission for the first of several wind farms in the UK, while in California, the solar array powering BT's offices and data centre has seen its first full year of operation.
