View Full Report

Construction materials company Lafarge has produced its ninth Sustainability Report at

Three years after launching 'Sustainability Ambitions 2012', a set of social and environmental targets, Lafarge reports the progress it has made towards them, notably in reducing its carbon dioxide emissions. By end of 2009, Lafarge had achieved its carbon dioxide objective one year ahead of schedule with a 20.7 per cent reduction between 1990 and 2010.

The Sustainability Report, which was developed using the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and has been checked and confirmed by GRI as A+ rated, has a different format this year. It has been made shorter and sharper, without reducing the quality and volume of the performance data provided. The body of the report has been divided in two, with one section covering the progress on each issue throughout 2009 and the other looking at performance against key targets and external standards over a longer period of time.

The report looks in detail at Lafarge's progress in the fight against climate change, on conserving the environment, on managing social issues in the context of the economic crisis, and also on sustainable construction through the development of products that reduce the footprint of a building over its lifetime. All topics are illustrated with various case studies.
