The Go-Ahead Group has just published its web-based Corporate Responsibility report for 2009 – the eighth year the UK transport company has produced such a document and the fifth year it has done so online.
Among the highlights this year are:
  Go-Ahead became the first public transport company to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard, the UK’s only independent certification which acknowledges actions to tackle climate change;

  achievement of a Gold Rating for the third year in a row in Business in the Community’s (BITC) Responsibility Index – the highest rating among comparable participating transport operators;

  around 75 per cent of Go-Ahead's site energy is generated from renewable sources including hydro-power, wind power and biomass fuels;

  around five per cent improved fuel efficiency in Go-Ahead's bus operations from investment in technology and training schemes;

  introduction of ‘regenerative braking’ on the third rail system on the Southern and Southeastern third rail networks in the UK. On Southern, regenerative braking is already showing an approximate 15 per cent reduction in traction energy;

  90 per cent of the bus fleet is fitted with CCTV (compared to the industry average of 52 per cent).
The report is once again supplemented by 13 individual corporate reports prepared by Go-Ahead’s various operating companies. All of the reports are available in hard copy as well as on the Go-Ahead website at
