Lafarge launches its Sustainability Report

View Full Report

Building materials group Lafarge, which operates in more than 70 countries, has recorded its progress on social and environmental issues in its latest full Sustainability Report, which has a new structure designed to improve transparency and make the document easier to read.

The report includes Lafarge's new 'Sustainability Ambitions 2012', which outline the way the group wants to run the business and manage its impacts over the next five years. Lafarge says it has focused on the environmental and social challenges where it believes it can have a big impact, 'make a real difference' and positively 'influence the building industry'.

The five ambitions chiefly relate to:
- emerging economies
- climate change
- employees (notably health and safety at work or people development)
- customers
- sourcing of raw materials

The report, which includes comments from an independent stakeholder panel and is assured by Ernst & Young, sets out deadlines and targets on each of the five areas.

Lafarge was listed for the third year running in the 2007 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations list compiled by Corporate Knights and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors. Lafarge's previous sustainability report has been included in SustainAbility's Global Reporters list of the 50 leading sustainability reports this year. Lafarge is also rated by the DJSI STOXX and FTSE4Good.

The report is only available on-line at
