Pharmaceutical company Novartis has released a Corporate Citizenship Review at http://www.ethicalperformance.net/Novartis_Review.html

Creating value through responsible business is a 16-page overview describing how Novartis lives up to its commitment to being 'a responsible citizen of the world'.

Corporate citizenship at Novartis rests on four pillars - patients, ethical business conduct, people and communities, and environmental care.

In 2006, Novartis contributed USD 755 million to access to medicines programmes around the world. This contribution reached 33.6 million patients - slightly more than the population of Canada. During the same year, Novartis employees worldwide completed more than 218,000 e-learning courses in ethics compliance covering such topics as human rights, ethical marketing practices as well as data protection. Novartis also strengthened its pandemic preparedness plans in an attempt to better protect the health of employees and their families and to ensure supplies of life-saving drugs to patients should a flu pandemic occur.

Novartis produces an online report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines which can be found at http://www.ethicalperformance.net/Novartis_Guidelines.html
