Severn Trent Plc launches 2005 Corporate Responsibility Report

Severn Trent Plc, a leading provider of water, waste and environmental services, has published its 2005 Corporate Responsibility Report.

A Summary Report includes highlights of 2004/05 and new objectives and targets, while a new section discusses issues of increasing importance for the utility sector including climate change, supply chain assessment and vulnerable customers. The full Corporate Responsibility report is available online at: Highlights in 2004/05 included:

- increasing the renewable energy generating capacity in which the group has an interest by 19% to around 131MW.
- Biffa, the company's waste subsidiary, handled over one million tonnes of waste for recycling, around 12% of the waste directly disposed of.
- one of the first companies in the sector to express support for the UN Global Compact principles.

In 2005/06 the FTSE 100 company is placing additional focus on further improving its health and safety performance, communicating with all employees regarding its updated Code of Conduct, and improving and expanding its supply chain assessment programmes.

In September 2005 Severn Trent was named leader of the utility 'supersector' in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the fifth year in a row.
