The Philips Sustainability Report 2005

View Full Report

Europe's largest electronics company, Philips, has reported significant growth in sales of its 'Green Flagship' products, which doubled last year to euros 2 billion (US$2.34bn, £1.3bn).

According to the company's newly published Sustainability Report 2005, Philips last year launched 50 Green Flagship products such as energy-efficient light bulbs and other products that are designed to have a greatly reduced environmental impact.

Philips now has more than 160 Green Flagship products on the market and has invested over euros 400 million in energy-efficient lighting technologies in the past five years. Figures show that upgrading all energy-inefficient lighting in Europe would cut energy costs for users by more than euros 4.3 billion a year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 28 millions tons annually.

The report, produced in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative guidelines and verified by KPMG, also provides information on Philips' New Sustainable Business Initiative, which supports entrepreneurial activities that seek to create both social and economic returns on investment in emerging markets.
