Greene praised for leadership impact

December 2014

Moya Greene, ceo of Royal Mail, has been named the Ashridge Business School Leader of the Year at the 2014 National Business Awards. Recognising the personal impact of the UK’s most high profile leaders on the culture and success of their organisations and the industries they operate in, this year’s Award focused on the theme of ‘the transformational leader’.

Greene led the flotation of Royal Mail three years after becoming its ceo in 2010 - the biggest privatisation in almost 30 years, with 10% of the company given to employees as part of the largest free share offer in UK corporate history. She is also the first woman to hold the post.

Greene was chosen as the winner following a combination of a public vote, and a peer ballot of over 40 executives. Judges looked at how these leaders have demonstrated the best balance between traditional board values and the new business environment – achieving measured and sustainable growth or driving improved performance.

The judges said: “A visionary leader and a great communicator, Moya Greene brought together a wide variety of stakeholders in the successful transformation and privatisation of Royal Mail - and agreed an historic deal with its union.”
