Nokia calls on O2… Nokia has agreed to sell a second handset without its charger unit as standard on O2. The Finnish manufacturer has followed a successful trial with its Lumia 925 by launching the Nokia 301 with only the USB-charging cable, but not the mains charging unit.
The Nokia 301 has now become the fifth handset to be sold as part of its campaign to create a potentially huge environmental saving. It is also the first mass-market handset from a major manufacturer – with all Chargers out of the Box handsets to date having been flagship smartphones.
However, by trialling the Nokia 301 charger-free, O2 wants to establish whether the scheme can be applied across its entire range – were all manufacturers to sign up.
