Virgin Trains director steams into DECC
Arthur Leathley has been appointed director of communications at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in the UK. Leathley joins the government from Virgin Trains, where, as communications director, he has spent the last 9 years heading the company’s media, political and internal communications operation as well as customer relations. His previous experience includes a 10-year stint as a correspondent at the Times.
Leathley will oversee the department’s communications priorities as set out in the Government Communications Plan, published last month. Leathley said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. Energy and climate change matter to every individual and every business. The task for communications is clear: to demonstrate that the UK has secure, clean, affordable energy supplies and to drive international action to mitigate climate change. I am looking forward to working with the DECC team to deliver these messages.”
As DECC director of communications, Leathley will work closely with the Permanent Secretary Stephen Lovegrove, the Secretary of State Edward Davey and with senior civil servants in DECC and across government.
