Google reveals carbon footprintOctober 2011
IT giant Google has revealed its carbon footprint for the first time and, though its energy consumption continues to increase, the company says it has been carbon neutral since 2007. The firm’s data centres consume 260 million watts of electricity on a continuous basis, and its total carbon dioxide emissions in 2010 were 1.5million metric tonnes, a figure roughly equivalent to that of underdeveloped countries like Guinea and Togo. However, the firm says its emissions are balanced with carbon offsets.
