Welsh SMEs get advice

December 2010

Online CSR guidance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has been launched in Wales by the devolved government’s environment and sustainability minister.

The ABC of CSR for SMEs, developed by Cardiff University and the accountancy profession body Acca Wales, provides practical advice on corporate responsibility, as well as background information and examples.

The guide is in three parts: a ‘getting started’ section, giving initial practical ideas; further, advanced ideas and initiatives for those who have already started to adopt some CSR measures; and tips for companies ready to formalize their programmes.

The document also outlines Welsh companies’ legal duties.

Ben Cottam, head of Acca Wales, said: ‘Wales is a nation of SMEs, and those businesses are at the heart of every Welsh community. They need to respond to the rise of ethical consumerism.’

The guide is the first of its kind in the UK, and is available free of charge.
