Boom time for SRI consultancy as market grows

January 2010

Institutional investors are increasingly turning to specialist consultancy firms for advice on how they should invest responsibly, according to new research by the European Sustainable Investment Forum (Eurosif).

Eurosif says increasing concern with SRI issues among  pension funds and charities, along with a proliferation of investment ‘styles’ and products in the area, is triggering a growth in demand for advice, with 60 per cent of the European institutional investor market now using investment consultants for help on investment strategy and asset manager selection. It says that figure is likely to rise further in the near future.

Investment consultants believe rising demand for their services is being driven by ‘a mixture of investor reputation, beneficiary pressure and an evolving view on fiduciary duty’, the researchers observe.

Among the investment consultancy firms interviewed during the study were Attain Consulting, Hymans Robertson, Watson Wyatt, Kottmann Advisory, and onValues.
