The Church of England is re-examining its £2.5million ($4.1m, €2.8m) investment in the metals and mining company Vedanta after the Archbishop of Canterbury’s intervention. Rowan Williams has asked officials in charge of the church’s investments to investigate allegations that a new Vedanta bauxite project on Niyamgiri mountain in Orissa, India, will destroy the area’s ecosystem and threaten the future of the 8000-strong Dongria Kondh tribe that lives and farms there.
