Chinese reporting continues exponential growthApril 2009
Growing numbers of businesses operating in China are realizing the importance of CSR reporting, concludes a survey by SynTao, a Beijing-based CSR and SRI consultancy.
The number of reports released in 2006 alone exceeded the total number from all previous years combined, says SynTao, which is a regional partner of the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia. Since then the number has continued to rise. There were 77 reports in 2007 and 121 in the first 11 months of last year.
In its analysis of the figures, the survey, A Journey to Discover Values 2008, says half of those 121 enterprises were state-owned, but an increasing number of privately owned companies have also started to report.
Most of the reports were published by large corporations in sectors such as finance, energy and public utilities, and more than half of them were stock exchange-listed.
