The financial services sector was involved in almost a quarter of ‘ethical lapses’ reported in the British media last year, says a new study by the Institute of Business Ethics. The lapses ranged from misleading advertisements for financial products to the funding of regimes or companies in violation of human rights. Supermarkets and retail chains were the next most likely to receive such coverage – 15 per cent of the total – while utilities and information technology companies had a lower profile.
