Marks & Spencer has been judged the best UK supermarket on animal welfare practices. The animal rights group Compassion in World Farming gave M&S highest marks in an analysis of issues such as factory farming and transport and slaughter of animals. Waitrose was close behind M&S. Asda and Somerfield were at the bottom of the ranking, which covered Britain’s eight main supermarkets.
