March 2008

Co-operative supermarkets are to become the first UK retailer to convert their entire own-brand hot beverage range to Fairtrade. The chain switched its own-brand coffee in 2003, but now all Co-operative tea and hot chocolate will meet Fairtrade standards too. The company will absorb any extra costs. The change is partly a result of feedback from customers, who said ethical trading should be the supermarket’s top priority (EP9, issue 5, p12).
