Germans launch SRI forumMarch 2001
A sustainable investment forum has been launched in Berlin to encourage more socially responsible investment in Germany.
Forum Nachhaltige Geldanlagen, which aims ‘to promote and disseminate’ SRI in the country, has been created by 28 founding members, including investment firms such as Sarasin, BfG Invest and UBS as well as ‘alternative’ banks such as Umweltbank, rating agencies including oekom research, and financial brokers and advisers.
Other founder members include a number of socially responsible enterprises that borrow money from the ‘green’ capital market, such as Janosch Film und Medien, plus the stockbrokers HerMerlin.
A seven-strong committee chaired by Walter Kahlenborn of the ecological think tank Ecologic will guide the activities of the new organization, which is modelled on the UK Social Investment Forum.
A similar group, called Forum pour l'Investissement Responsable, is to be officially launched in France on 8 March.
