Plans to strengthen legislation to deal with violent animal rights activists have been announced by UK home secretary Jack Straw following financial problems experienced by Huntingdon Life Sciences. The Cambridge-based company had to seek emergency financial backing from its biggest shareholder, US investment company Stephens Group, after a long campaign by protesters against animal testing at its laboratories.
