The Church of England has insisted that its investment policy has not changed, despite a decision to sell £31 million worth of shares in GEC. The church's ethical investment working group made the decision after British Aerospace bought Marconi Defence Systems, a defence arm of GEC, for £7 billion. 'It is the church's long standing ethical investment policy not to invest in companies whose main business is in armaments, so we have never held shares in British Aerospace,' it said.
