Ethical fund sales show big rise

UK retail ethical funds saw a sales jump by a quarter over the last three months of 2009, according to latest statistics from the Investment Management Association (IMA).

Quarterly data shows sales of ethical funds increased from £144million to £186m between September and December of last year, outstripping growth in gross retail sales and index tracker funds.

Although the actual number of ethical retail funds is unchanged at 54, the IMA says net ethical fund retail sales reached £62.2m, up from £55.2m net sales for the same time last year. Assets under management in ethical funds have jumped by more than £1bn over the past year, to £5.6bn.
