Private equity gets SRI helpJune 2009
British private equity firms have set up an advisory board to help them develop responsible investment strategies.
The 11-person board, created last month by the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), will provide ‘strategic guidance’ to the association and its members on responsible investment topics.
Led by the 450-member industry body’s chairman Wol Kolade, who is a managing partner at Isis Equity Partners, its members include John Gripton of Capital Dynamics, Susan Flynn of Hermes Private Equity, Michele Giddens of Bridges Ventures, and Mark Wade of the Future Considerations consultancy.
Kolade said the board would ‘provide practical advice to our members to help them integrate corporate responsible investment considerations into their business decisions’. He added that the BVCA felt that, as ‘part of the economic mainstream’, it can play a key role in spreading SRI.
The BVCA is also to establish a research project looking at the level of SRI activity among its members, and will host a forum on the topic later this year.
