Dutch staff unimpressed

A Dutch survey of corporate employees suggests they are unconvinced by their companies’ CSR performance.

The research, by the Netherlands-based consultancy Krauthammer with Amsterdam and Rotterdam Universities, shows that half of respondents were ‘disappointed’ with their employer’s ethical performance.

The survey was in three sections – people, planet and profit – with results showing that employees regard people issues as the most important by far.

The great majority were concerned about fair wages and trade union development, and only 17 per cent of respondents felt their employers performed well on issues such as labour conditions.

On most subjects only about a quarter of companies were considered by their workers as ‘exemplary’ – for example, 21 per cent on climate change and 23 per cent on ‘socially responsible profit’.

Ronald Meijers, co-chairman of the Krauthammer board, said employees were often concerned that their employees were failing even to identify and grasp ‘low-hanging fruit’, such as energy efficiency measures.
