Cheung Kong support students

July 2005

Scholarships have been granted to 29 Hong Kong students under the first educational link-up between the Australian government and a private-sector company.

The government’s partner in the programme is Cheung Kong (Holdings), the property development and strategic investment company, which is part of the Cheung Kong conglomerate.

Of the 29 students, drawn from Hong Kong’s eight universities, 19 are undergraduates and ten are postgraduates. They represent 40 per cent of the allocation for Asian students.

The two partners have committed A$4.5million ($3.4m, £1.9m) over three years to provide educational courses and cultural exchanges for 420 Australian and Asian students under the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong scholarship programme.
