Coca-Cola firm gets dedicated CSR manager

July 2005

Coca-Cola Enterprises has created its first dedicated corporate social responsibility role in the UK as it prepares to raise its profile in the field.

The post of CSR manager has been filled by Joe Franses, former community investment manager at Cable & Wireless, who will work within a team of three at the company, which manufactures, bottles and distributes Coca-Cola products in the UK.

Franses said key CSR issues for the company, which employs more than 5000 people in the UK, are obesity and 'wellness', responsible marketing and recycling.

'This is the first time the company has had somebody in this kind of dedicated CSR role, even though it has dealt with the subject for a long time,' he said. 'We don't have a profile within the CSR networks but we will begin to look at communicating more of what we've been doing on corporate responsibility.'

Cable & Wireless, which has a large community contributions programme, has decided not to replace Franses and has disbanded its community relations department.
