AWG pledges to give more precise data

November 2004

AWG, the UK-based water and infrastructure services group, has been urged to be more precise when producing some of its sustainability indicators. In a verification statement accompanying AWG’s latest sustainability report, the Enviros consultancy group says that although the company’s data collection systems have improved since the group’s first report last year, ‘the targets to which AWG is currently working lack precise criteria for tracking performance’. As a result, ‘it has only been possible for AWG to indicate, and Enviros to verify, progress in broad terms’.

Enviros points out that some indicators in the AWG report are banded percentage scores, making it difficult to assess performance precisely. The company says, for instance, that ‘40-60 per cent’ of its major investment decisions were made after a sustainability assessment.

Jiggy Lloyd, AWG’s group director for sustainable development, accepted Enviros’s comments, and said they would be taken into account as part of a forthcoming sustainability strategy review being carried out as a result of a reorganization.
