Four out of ten companies believe they have lost business in the last five years because a competitor paid a bribe.
A survey of 250 international companies based in Germany, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Singapore, the UK and the US, also found UK companies were most likely to turn down investment opportunities on corruption grounds. Nearly half (48 per cent) of UK firms had done so, followed by US (42 per cent) and German firms (40 per cent), the Control Risks Group consultancy found.
