Taylor Woodrow under fire

August 1999

UK construction company Taylor Woodrow has been criticised for the quality of environmental information in its latest annual report.

Analysts from PIRC (Pensions and Investment Research Consultants) advised shareholders to abstain at the company’s recent AGM in protest at ‘insufficient environmental disclosure’ in the report.

PIRC claimed Taylor Woodrow had promised last year to publish more ‘meaningful’ information on the company’s environmental performance in its next annual report, but had not done so.

‘We note that this year’s report contains little substantive improvement in the company’s environmental disclosure,’ it said. ‘We recommend that the company disclose its environmental policy in the annual report and discloses more comprehensive information on its environmental performance.’

A Taylor Woodrow spokeswoman said the company was trying to improve its disclosure. ‘We are working to be in a position where we can publish environmental information in a lot more detail,’ she said.
