Italy set for rapid growth in SRI fundsMarch 2002
The number of socially responsible investment funds in Italy is likely to rise by at least 50 per cent by the end of this year, according to research by Socially Responsible Italia.
Andrea Di Turi, who heads the Milan-based company which provides SRI advice to Catholic investors, says his research suggests at least seven more funds will be launched in Italy this year. At present there are 13 SRI funds domiciled in Italy.
‘These are plans I have heard on a confidential basis, so there may be others too,’ he told EP. ‘I feel the total could double.’ Di Turi said increased consumer demand and pressure from church bodies was driving the growth.
Some 60 per cent of SRI assets in Italy are held in the Sanpaolo Azionario Internazionale Etico fund, which was worth €750million ($657m, £459m) in February 2002.
